Definition: When inhalation hazards cannot be adequately controlled by engineering or administrative means, the use of respiratory protection (as an additional control measure) is warranted. Respirators are designed to protect only against specific types of substances and in certain concentration ranges. Per UCSB Policy 5440, The Office of Environmental Health and Safety will act as the sole source for purchasing, maintaining, fitting and approving the use of all respiratory equipment and for training the campus personnel in its use.
Implementation: The process of obtaining respirators consists of the following:
