Lab Safety & Chemical Hygiene Program

Laboratory Personal Protective Equipment

Each supervisor shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The tool for research Principle Investigators to conduct and document this assessment is called the Laboratory Hazard Assessment Tool, or LHAT (link below).

Upon completing the Hazard Assessment portion of LHAT, PI’s should invite their group members to log into their LHAT group. These group members will be walked through a process that will ultimately issue them the required PPE at no cost, as well as document its issuance.
