This course covers the training requirements of the Cal/OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard. Specific material covered includes:

  • Supervisor and employee responsibilities under the UCSB Respiratory Protection Program
  • Why a respirator is necessary and how improper fit, usage, or maintenance can compromise the protective effect of the respirator
  • Proper respirator selection and cartridge type
  • The limitations and capabilities of a respirator
  • How to use a respirator effectively in emergency situations, including situations in which the respirator malfunctions
  • How to inspect, don, doff, use, and check the seals of a respirator
  • Procedures for maintenance and storage of a respirator
  • How to recognize medical signs and symptoms that may limit or prevent the effective use of respirators
  • The requirements of the Cal/OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard
