Controlled substances are narcotic and non-narcotic drugs under the jurisdiction of the federal Controlled Substances Act. A complete listing of such drugs can found on the DEA Diversion Control Division website.
Controlled substances possessed on campus for research or veterinary purposes are regulated by the DEA Diversion Control Division. In addition to federal regulations, authorized controlled substance activities must adhere to UCOP BUS-50 as well as UCSB's Controlled Substance Policy.
As required by the DEA, PIs or researchers must obtain their own DEA Registration prior to beginning any project involving the use of controlled substances.
