Description

Per UC policy this online training, or live version, are mandatory for individuals working in UCSB laboratories. To enroll in the next available live class, use the “Search” function in the UC Learning Center and search on: Fundamentals Laboratory Safety INITIAL. Some departments allow lab workers to take this online training to gain lab access, but are then required to take the next available live training. Anyone can take the live class and are encouraged to do so – some faculty require it. The live version is usually offered twice quarterly. Note that this online provides basic information and does not replace the lab-specific training that should be done within a particular research environment. The lab supervisor is responsible to see that any needed safety training is completed and documented. Most of the topics here are specifically mandated by regulations to be covered in documented training and include:

  • Common Classes of Chemical Hazards
  • Material Safety Data Sheets
